Gingivitis and periodontal diseases – Exams and testing

The dentist will examine the teeth as well as the gums during the medical control, using a small mirror and an instrument called periodontal probe.

The dentist will draft a periodontal record and will check:

• bacterial plaque ( soft deposits ),
• calculus ( mineral deposits),
• gum bleeding.

The more dental surfaces are covered with calculus, the more the gums will bleed in several areas and the bigger the chances are that the disease is in an advanced state.
